Unilorin 39th Convocation: Tinubu Tasks Graduates to Harness Intelligence, Courage for National Growth

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to improving the educational sector and empowering Nigerian youths. Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Hon. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, Tinubu congratulated the graduating students of the University of Ilorin on their academic achievements, urging them to contribute positively to Nigeria’s development.

Tinubu acknowledged the economic and security challenges facing the country but expressed optimism about Nigeria’s resilience. He encouraged the youth to take on leadership roles, highlighting their intelligence, courage, and integrity as essential tools to navigate the nation’s pressing issues.

The President also outlined the government’s initiatives to support students, including the Nigerian Education Loans Fund (NELFUND), which provides financial aid for students. He emphasised the importance of an uninterrupted academic calendar, calling for peaceful dialogue between academic staff and the government to resolve any issues.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, also addressed the graduates. Adaramaja urged the graduates to embrace innovation and contribute positively to the country.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Surv. Abiodun Aluko, praised the institution’s status as the most sought-after university in Nigeria. He also commended the establishment of NELFUND, describing it as a relief for students and families. Aluko appreciated Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for infrastructural improvements around the university, notably the completion of a flyover bridge easing traffic in the area.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, encouraged the graduates to continue learning, unlearning, and relearning, emphasising that their education was a foundation for future global competition.
