The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has commended President Bola Tinubu for tax reform policy following the passage of the tax bills by both the National Assembly for a second reading.

The Chairman of the Conference, Adebo Ogundoyin, gave the commendation in a communiqué signed by the body’s Director General, Busari Sarafadeen, in Abuja on Friday.

The Speakers also acknowledged the leadership change in the Lagos State House of Assembly, urging strict adherence to constitutional provisions in the removal of state legislative leaders.

This is just as the Speakers welcomed court rulings affirming the legitimacy of the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly and urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other stakeholders to work with the duly constituted Assembly to ensure stability and progress in the state.

“We acknowledge the citizens’ concerns and believe these will guide lawmakers in passing legislation that serves the nation’s overall interests. If enacted, the reforms are expected to strengthen fiscal federalism by empowering states with greater financial autonomy through improved tax collection and administration, enabling them to fund critical infrastructure and public services for sustainable development.
