Prof Kola Oyedepo Launches Book on the Challenges and Triumphs of Nursing Profession in Nigeria

 

 

On Friday, September 29, 2023, at 10 am, the international conference center in Abuja will witness a momentous occasion as retired Professor Kola Oyedepo unveils his latest literary achievement, a book titled “Challenges and Triumph of Nursing Profession in Nigeria.”

 

Born to the esteemed family of Chief Enigemo Fanuola Asaola Oyedepo and Madam Mary Adegbemile Afolabi Oyedepo in Omu-Aran, Irepodun LGA of Kwara State, Prof Kola Oyedepo’s journey to becoming a prolific author is a testament to his lifelong dedication to the field of nursing and healthcare.

 

His educational journey commenced at the Native Authority School, Omu-Aran, affectionately known as Makarata (1946-51) and continued at the Middle School in Ilorin (1952-53). Prof Oyedepo’s early career included serving as a Clerk in the Treasury Department of the Northern Region of Nigeria from 1954 to 1957. In 1958, he attended the PTSN in Kano and was subsequently posted to Zaria General Hospital. His commitment to nursing led him to become a Registered Nurse in 1961. He furthered his education by obtaining the SRN Certificate from the Royal College of Nursing in England in 1965, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree from McGill University in Montreal, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, in 1973. His academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. degree from the University of Ibadan in 1988.

 

Prof Kola Oyedepo’s illustrious career saw him contributing significantly to various organizations and agencies in the fields of health service, education, and administration. He made valuable contributions to institutions like Ahmadu Bello University in Malunfashi, the University of Ibadan, and Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama, USA. Notably, he played a pivotal role in advocating for the recognition of nursing as a noble profession.
