Police arrest 17 over planned violent protest in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects over a planned violent protest aimed at causing unrest in the state.

Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, said security operatives foiled the protest following credible intelligence about the suspects’ intentions.

“Following intelligence reports of a planned violent protest, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, deployed personnel to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent disorder and ensure public safety.”

Haruna confirmed that 17 suspected thugs were apprehended and investigations are ongoing. He warned against unlawful gatherings, processions, or violent acts, stating that security agencies will respond swiftly and decisively to any threats.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies. The Command appreciates the support of Kano residents in maintaining peace and order.”

Our correspondent observed a heavy security presence around key areas, including Gidan Nassarawa Palace, currently occupied by the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

Sources suggest the planned protest may be linked to efforts to disrupt the Monarch’s Ramadan Tafsir event in the area.
