[Op-Ed]: Good roads and Economic prosperity by Abdulkareem Olatunji Yusuf

Undoubtedly, Road infrastructure investments constitute important economics and social processes that increases the riches and power of a nation, it enlarge markets and also lower trade barriers.

For any state or country’s economy to develop, distribution and consumption of services must increase. It is an obvious truth that without good road networks, distribution and consumption will find it difficult, maybe near impossible to improve, even if population keeps growing and multiplying. The number of people living in poverty in Nigeria keeps soaring and one of cogent contributors to this menace is the lack of access to markets.

When i see Federal Government and State Governments opening new roads, doing maintenance and repairs on the existing roads, it gives me a level of happiness, I take it as an empowerment, sort of for the Nigerian people.

When there are good road networks, it will always be easy for farmers to take their goods to market to sell at good prices and return to farms to do another round of planting and so it continues.

Good road networks means a lot to me and i shall not stop praising Governments that take this as priorities, now or in the future.

It’s on this note that I appreciate the Governor of Kwara state led by Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq CON in his unprecedented vision of making Kwarans have good road networks, both in the urban and rural areas, an adventure being piloted by the Supervising Commissioner for works, Hon. Abdulquawiy Olododo.

As at now, a tour round the capital city can make one take Ilorin for a working site due to the numerous rehabilitation, Drainage Desiltation and reconstruction of roads that has been ongoing for a while. All of these aren’t just happening, they aren’t a coincidence. They are very well thought-out plans and kudos must be given to the State Government, as I’m charging our indefatigable Governor to do more because there can always be a room for improvement.
