Kwara Govt Kick-start training for Teachers on Peace and Security Strategy

In a bid to promote peace and security in schools, the Kwara State Government has trained 120 teachers on peace and security education. The program, which was held at Fresh Hotel, Ilorin, is part of the activities of the Education for Peace and Security Strategy in Kwara State.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu during the training, commended the First Lady of Kwara State, Amb. Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, for her commitment to promoting peace and security in the state. She lauded Governor AbdulRazaq’s commitment and support in transforming the educational sector in the state.

She noted that the training will enable teachers to nurture peace, build peaceful communities, and ensure collaboration between individuals in society, schools, and workplaces.


Dr. Manu Lekunzeco, Co-lead EPSI, took the teachers through various sections on why peace is needed in the school environment, conflicts and dispute resolution, and security strategy in schools. The program aims to provide technical support and advice to the government and training for teachers and students on peace and security education in all schools in the state.


Teachers in the training, including Mr. Ogidiolu Taofik of Barakat Community Secondary School, Ilorin, Mrs Akin Funmi of Offa Grammar School, Mr Kolo Musa of Patigi Secondary School, and Mrs. Babatunde Aminat of Army day Secondary school, commended the state government under the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the initiative. They noted that the training has equipped them with the knowledge and skills to manage security and conflicts in schools and impact their communities.


The trained teachers are expected to move from door to door to teach others in all schools, promoting a culture of peace and security in Kwara State schools.
