Gov AbdulRazaq Flags off Distribution of Awareness, Sensitization Books on Bullying and Drug Abuse to Kwara Students

In a progressive step towards fostering a safer and more informed learning environment, the Kwara State Government has launched a statewide distribution of awareness and sensitization books on bullying and drug abuse, accompanied by essential textbooks, for students across the state. The distribution ceremony, held in Ilorin, at Saint Anthony’s Secondary School, marks the beginning of an initiative aimed at equipping students with valuable knowledge to navigate and combat issues of bullying and substance misuse.

The program was flagged off by Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, ably represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Madibo Kawu who emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing these pressing issues impacting the youth. Speaking at the launch, the commissioner highlighted the importance of raising awareness about bullying and drug abuse from a young age, noting that these materials would provide students with practical insights and resources for maintaining personal safety and promoting healthy choices.

Education officials, teachers, and community leaders were in attendance at the event, praising the state’s proactive approach. The distribution will target both primary and secondary schools, ensuring that students across educational levels receive age-appropriate content. The initiative aligns with the Kwara State Government’s larger education reform agenda, which focuses on both academic development and the well-being of students.

“This initiative is not just about books; it’s about empowering our students with the knowledge to protect themselves and make better choices,” stated the Commissioner for Education. “Bullying and drug abuse are issues that can have lifelong consequences, and by educating our youth, we are building a stronger, healthier society.”

The sensitization materials cover various aspects of bullying and drug prevention, with a focus on real-life scenarios and practical steps students can take if they encounter such issues. Officials have also planned follow-up workshops and support services in schools to reinforce the lessons provided in the books, ensuring sustained impact.

The Kwara State Government’s efforts signal a commitment to tackling the root causes of these challenges, with hopes that this initiative will contribute to a safer and more supportive environment in schools across the state.
