Earlier today, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Football competition at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin witnessed an exclusive interview with Former Commissioner for Works, Honorable Rotimi Iliasu. The event provided a platform for Rotimi to share valuable insights on various topics, from football to politics and infrastructure.
In the midst of the NSE game quarterfinals, Rotimi shared his perspective on the match between the Harmony Boys and the iKeja Boys from Kwara State. At halftime, the Harmony Boys held a 1-0 lead, and Rotimi expressed confidence in their victory, adding excitement to the ongoing competition.
During the interview, the former commissioner was also questioned about allegations linking him to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In response, Rotimi firmly denied ever receiving any contact from the EFCC and attributed such claims to political motives. He emphasized, “It’s part of politics; there is no way you will go and fetch water, and water won’t spill on you. That’s politics.”
Rotimi’s insights extended beyond football and politics. He addressed a viral video concerning the Tanke flyover’s construction, offering a comprehensive analysis of the video’s context. Rotimi highlighted key factors such as structural design, materials used, and overall engineering prowess. He stressed the importance of considering multiple perspectives when evaluating the success and impact of infrastructure projects.
“When it comes to bridges, a concrete structure is designed to withstand water flow, especially if the asphalt work and earthwork have been done properly,” explained Rotimi. “If the asphalt work is done well, water won’t be able to penetrate to the laterite layer, allowing it to pour down without causing any issues. The bridge was in the process of completion when the video was taken, with engineers waiting to place the expansion joints and finish the final asphalt work. This would prevent any water-related concerns.”
Rotimi concluded by urging caution when encountering viral videos of infrastructure projects, noting that they may be shared with mischievous motives. He confirmed that the Tanke flyover has now been fully completed and is fully equipped to handle rain without any problems, emphasizing the need to consider the full context when assessing such developments.
In this exclusive interview, Former Commissioner Rotimi Iliasu shared valuable insights that spanned the worlds of sports, politics, and infrastructure, shedding light on critical issues of public interest.
