A Wake-up Call against Attacks on Education in our Tertiary Institutions: A Case Study of Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin
Many attacks on education seems the trend around the world. This development seems intentionally targeted at the major players of the system, particularly the schools, teachers and students.
No doubt, these attacks violates the rights of administrators of schools teachers and students. This ugly trend thwarts students’ chances to get good education. Attacks on the sector can cause students to dropout or go to school less often. Inconsistency from major players, and especially from the government, severally diminishes the quality of education.
Human Rights Watch defines **Attacks on Education* as encompassing the full range of violation that place people at risk and deny them access to quality education. Obviously, KWCOED, ilorin staff and management have been fighting battles against financial attacks for some couple of months. Some of the attacks have overbearing influence on students performance. This may have informed teachers apathy to discharging their duties. An environment devoid of conduciveness and serenity can deteriorate education.
Hence, no educational sectors can efficiently stand on its own, bearing in mind that these attacks may not likely end too soon. Therefore, Federal/State government should holistically put together mechanism in order to stave off the doom of these attacks.
Meanwhile, consistent attack can also lead to shift in focus, by this, I mean students will not be interested in academic and information shared with their cohort. This may also affect the growth and standard of education. Attack on education is vehemently a negative crusade on education and to this extent therefore, it must be guide against so as to avert future problems for the nation.
Thanks.
