The Oyo State Government and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, have separately set up a total of 122 coronation committee members.
On Monday, Oba Owoade approved 97 members of the Local Organising Coronation Committee, which is set to be inaugurated tomorrow, Wednesday, 12 February 2025.
It was reports that the state government had earlier inaugurated a 25-member committee for the monarch’s coronation.
It will also be recalled that the state governor, Seyi Makinde, officially presented the staff of office to Oba Owoade on 13 January 2025 at the Secretariat, Agodi, in Ibadan, the state capital.
In a statement issued in Ibadan by his Chief of Staff, Rotimi Osuntola, the Alaafin said, “The inaugural meeting of all committee members will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, 12 February 2025, at the Alaafin’s Palace in Oyo.”
The 122-member committee, chaired by Oyo-born technocrat and former Independent National Electoral Commission Commissioner Kunle Ogunmola, comprises distinguished individuals committed to ensuring a seamless and befitting coronation ceremony.
Osuntola stressed that the Local Organising Committee would collaborate closely with the committee set up by Governor Seyi Makinde to facilitate the effective planning and execution of the historic event.
The Chief of Staff said, “This momentous occasion aims to unite Yorubaland, encouraging the active participation of stakeholders from within and beyond the region. The ultimate goal is to deliver an all-inclusive, epoch-making, and hitch-free coronation that proudly showcases the rich Yoruba cultural heritage to the world.”
