Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to student-informed education policy, with the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, emphasizing the importance of student input in shaping education reforms.

Speaking during a special visit to schools across Ilorin metropolis to celebrate Children’s Day, Commissioner Kawu stressed that students’ voices must be heard and their perspectives considered in the quest to enhance the education system.

“We recognize that students are the end-users of our education system, and as such, their input is crucial in shaping policies that affect them,” Commissioner Kawu said. “We are committed to creating a student-centric education system that caters to the needs of our young people.”

The Commissioner’s visit to Abata Gambari Senior Secondary School (Ilorin East LGA), St Williams RCM/LGEA School Taiwo-Isale (Ilorin South), and UBEC Model Smart School Adeta (Ilorin West) was more than just a celebratory gesture. It was an opportunity for her to engage with students, listen to their concerns, and gather feedback on how to improve the education system.

The visit also recognized the achievements of two exceptional students, Kehinde Raheedat Gobir and Lukman Ayomide Rohilat, who excelled in national literary and writing competitions. She donates books, and gifts to the students.

During her interactions with students, Commissioner Kawu encouraged them to embrace a culture of reading, describing books as “food for the brain” that enhances knowledge and brilliance.

She also applauded the dedication of teachers who nurture young minds, stating, “Creating a good present is key to creating a good future.”

The Kwara State Government’s commitment to student-informed education policy is a welcome development for stakeholders in the education sector. “This approach will ensure that our education system is responsive to the needs of our students, and that we are preparing them for success in an increasingly complex world,” said a teacher.

As the Kwara State Government continues to work towards enhancing the education system, the inclusion of student voices in the policy-making process is a significant step towards creating a more effective and sustainable education system.
